Rivers State Police Command has said that a female, simply known as Success, on November 25, 2025, stabbed a seven-year-old girl, Alicia Olajumoke, several times until she died, and then fatally stabbed herself in the neck.
The incident occurred at the residence of the deceased child at 21, Okabia Street, Agip Estate, Rumueme, where she lived with her mother, Glory Joseph.
According to the Command’s spokeswoman, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the mother of the child reported at the station that her daughter was murdered at about 2pm on the fateful day.
She told the police that the suspect went to the school of the deceased, picked her up, took her to the house, and stabbed her to death, following which she also inflicted a stab wound on her own throat.
“The scene of the crime was visited, and photographs were taken. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The suspect was also rushed to the same hospital and confirmed dead.
“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
“Preliminary investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated,” the PPRO stated.
Residents of Agip Estate have expressed deep shock at the incident, with neighbours describing the deceased child as cheerful and bright.
While the motive remains unclear, the suspect appeared to have been very familiar with the deceased child, giving her the opportunity to take her away from school without any resistance or being questioned.
The incident has brought the need for awareness and preventive measures to avoid such a tragedy in the future.
