A suspected armed robber, Olawale Samsudeen, 27, is cooling his heels in the net of Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested at Bode Thomas area on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at about 10:20pm
The suspect was nabbed while he and two other members of the criminal gang attempted to rob a victim in his provisions shop at Eric Moore Close, Off Eric Moore Road, Bode Thomas.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Thursday, September 2, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu disclosed that the victim had raised the alarm, attracting a police anti-crime patrol team on routine patrol in the area.
The PPRO said that the patrol team, in a swift response, raced to the scene and, with the assistance of members of the public, arrested the suspect while two others escaped with the gang’s operational motorcycle.
He listed items recovered from the suspect to include a locally-made pistol and three cartridges.
During interrogation, Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect confessed to being a member of an armed gang which had been terrorising residents of Bode Thomas, Surulere and other parts of the State lately.
Ajisebutu said that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed that the case be transferred to the command’s Special Squad for further investigation.
Commending the quick response of the patrol team, CP Odumosu urged members of the public to have confidence in the police by giving prompt and credible information at all times.
