The Vice-Chancellor of Lead City University (LCU), Professor Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo, has spoken on the private tertiary institution’s remarkable achievements in producing eminent graduates who are sources of pride and telling the whole world that Lead City University is a university of choice.

Prof. Adeyemo stated this on Monday, March 25, in his address at a World Press Conference to kickstart the activities lined up to mark the University’s 20th anniversary.

Speaking on the remarkable journey of the university, the Vice-Chancellor said that it evolved from a modest beginning into one of Nigeria’s leading private institutions, setting benchmarks in academic excellence, research and community impact.

He said that the university’s high academic standards are being upheld, which has helped in earning full accreditation for its courses from the National Universities Commission and other relevant professional bodies.

“Since I assumed office as the Vice-Chancellor, we have intensified our efforts to enhance the quality of our academic programmes, improve our research output and strengthen our partnerships with industry, government and other stakeholders,” he remarked.

The Vice-Chancellor stated further that under his leadership, LCU had expanded its programmes from 40 to 120 with the introduction of disciplines such as Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Urban and Regional Planning, Tourism and Hospitality Studies, among many others, which he said reaffirmed the high standards of the institution’s academic offerings.

On infrastructure and learning facilities, Prof. Adeyemo boasted of significant investments, including modern lecture halls, well-equipped laboratories in, e-libraries and advanced ICT infrastructure that supports e-learning.

He said: “Our medical and engineering faculties now boast about some of the most sophisticated equipment in the country, ensuring that our students receive practical and hands-on training.”

He also disclosed the completion of ultra-modern facilities across the university environment which include 15 blocks of hostels, ultra-modern sports stadium, new Senate Building, College of Medicine, Faculty of Environmental & Design Management, new Lecture Hub, Faculty of Pharmacy, modern laboratories, engineering workshops, and the expansion of Lead City University Hospital with contemporary equipment and cafeterias.

Responding to journalists’ questions, the Vice-Chancellor also spoke on how team work among the management and staff, as well as commitment, cohesion and unity of purpose, had helped in achieving the success story the institution has been enjoying.

“Unlike other places where you book an appointment before you  can see any management staff, here, you’re free to see the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, bursar, even the Chairman.

“We are united and very dedicated. We are always ready to address issues as they come, not waiting to set up committee. We also have very good support from our  Council. The Chairman of the Council is a Professor who believes in distribution.

“We respond to parents because the students are in the institution because of us. We don’t see them as our students but our children; because they are future leaders of not only Nigeria but the world,” he stated.

Prof. Adeyemo noted: “We are not producing job seekers but job creators. We are student-friendly. Visitors are always impressed by what they see. Our commitment to excellence is second to none and we have zero tolerance for misconduct,” adding: “Students who pass out of Lead City University can compete conveniently with any PhD holder in the world.”

He also said that the university has performed many surgeries successfully, saying: “Our fees are affordable, compared to other universities.”

He disclosed that Lead City University is giving scholarships to two students from each of the 33 Local Government Areas in Oyo State, saying that the University has been doing this for the past 10 years.

He also said that the student population has increased from 4,000 to about 25,000 between 2005 and 2025, reflecting the growing reputation of LCU, adding that it has also been a success story in respect of the alumni of the institution.
