Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has expressed determination not to ‘stay in the gutters’ with some people in opposition, whom he said were doing all they could to distract him from addressing the issue of insecurity in the state.
Makinde, who said this during a recent interview with journalists at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, added that instead of trading words with critics, he would ignore their criticisms.
It will be noted that the governor had faced lashing from some critics on the issue of insecurity.
Stating that people of the state loved him, and were appreciative of the measures being taken by his administration to tackle insecurity and make the state safe, Governor Makinde said he remained unperturbed.
According to him, “I have chosen not to stay in the gutters with those folks trying to distract us. I will leave them to whatever it is they are doing.”
The governor also mentioned the credibility his administration had been having on the streets, saying he had the confidence of walking freely anywhere in the state, a quality, which he said those criticizing him lacked.
“I am glad that we do have street credibility. If they think we don’t, I will volunteer to walk on the street of Oje (market in Ibadan) with any of them, and we will see who has the credibility. The people are appreciative of what we are doing and they know precisely what is going on,” he said.
Makinde added that he would continue to serve the people who elected him into office but would be unmindful of few critics who had been interested in selfish gains.
“If a majority of the people elected us to be in this office, we are supposed to serve them, and that is exactly what we are going to do, and what we are going to keep doing,” Makinde stated.
