•Three other suspects for burning 10-year-old child with melting plastic
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects over their alleged criminal activities in separate disturbing incidents trending on social media which led to investigations.
In one of the incidents, a 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, is being investigated for the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend.
In the second incident, three suspects – Chukwudi Chukwuyere, aged 40; Chisom Chukwuyere, 30 years old; and Arum Goodluck, aged 16 – were apprehended for inflicting severe burns all over the body of a 10-year-old boy.
Thenewsbearer gathered that during interrogation, Mrs Chisom confessed to having used burning plastic to inflict burns on the victim.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the arrests, said that the Command followed credible information received from concerned members of the public.
“Police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the case and commenced detailed inquiries to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served,” Ikenga stated.
The PPRO said that the victim inflicted with burns had been provided with the necessary care and support, while police operatives are diligently gathering evidence to facilitate prosecution.
The Command commended the state residents for their vigilance, cooperation and timely provision of information, saying that it would continue to aid police and other security agencies in exposing criminal activities and apprehending offenders.
The Commissioner of Police, Dr Ikioye Orutugu, reassured them of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, enforcing the law, and ensuring that perpetrators of crimes are brought to justice.
He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and criminal conducts through the Command’s emergency lines and the nearest police station.
