A 32-year-old man, Tunde Bello, was on Saturday, January 16, 2021, picked by police in Ogun State Command, for allegedly abducting a lady, 29, and having forceful carnal knowledge of her.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made this known in a statement on Friday, January 22, said that on September 17, 2020, the victim (names withheld) reported at Mowe police station that she boarded a Hyundai car, at about 5:00a.m., from Ogunrun road, Mowe, to Lagos State while going to work.
But on getting to Mowe junction, the driver of the car allegedly turned towards Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan Highway, and drove her into a bush.
She said that after giving her a beating, Bello went ahead to forcefully rape her.
After the rape, she said that the suspect held her hostage, asking her to call her relations to send the sum of N140,000 to him as ransom, before he would let her go.
“She stated further that she had to call her brother, who transferred N140,000 to her account, from which she transferred the money into an account given to her by her abductor, before she was released.
“Upon her report, the Divisional Police Officer, Mowe Division, CSP Marvis Jayeola detailed his detectives to go after the suspect, with the aim of getting him arrested.
“The intelligence and technical-based investigation embarked upon by the detectives yielded positive results when the suspect, who had been under surveillance, was apprehended on January 16,” the PPRO stated.
Oyeyemi added that when he was interrogated, Bello confessed to committing the crime.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Edward A. Ajogun, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution,” the police spokesman stated further.
