A father, Odukaye Kunle, who brutalised his son, Boluwatife, in Ota, Ogun State, has been arrested by the police from the state command.
It will be recalled that the man was seen in a viral video on Friday, February 28, displaying anger.
As his young son, who is still a toddler, touched him, showing affection, the father brutally gave him a hard kick as if handling a football, with the boy’s neck twisted as he landed with a thud.
In an X handle statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who spoke on the arrest of the father, said: “The mother of the boy and the boy will be taken to our police medical centre, Ota, for further medical assessment and attention.
“The O/C Medical, Ogun State, has been ordered to proceed to Ota on this mission. Kunle will be charged to court on Monday, March 3.
“We commend the CP Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their commitment and ensuring that the boy gets justice. We appreciate you all for your concerns as well. Thanks.”
Thenewsbearer reports that after the video went viral on Friday, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State Command, Dr Lanre Ogunlowo, immediately put his officers to task to get the brutalised boy’s father arrested.
Though the house was located, the police officers only met the mother, Mrs Rashidat, and the abused child, Boluwatife.
“The duo have been taken to the office of the Commissioner of Police for protection and first aid medical attention.
“The culprit is at large, but we will surely get him and cause him to face the full weight of the law.
“We will update the public on any development on the matter. We urge anyone with useful information about the fleeing suspect to please contact us.
“Kudos to the CP Ogun, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and the DPO, Onipanu, Ota, and his men for their commitment on this matter. Thanks,” the FPRO had earlier said.
An X handle user who posted the video had written: “This man, Odukaye Kunle by name, is not supposed to be living among the sane. Please, help repost till the long hand of law gets to him. He resides at 16, Popoola Street, Oko Baale, Ado Odo Ota, Ogun State.”
