Multiple auto crash claims seven lives, injures four on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Seven people died while four were injured in a multiple vehicle crash which occurred on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, close to NIPCO Filling Station, Ibafo, at about 7a.m. on Saturday, April 5.

Thenewsbearer learnt that the crash involved two tankers and a commercial bus.

The vehicles were a white MACK Tanker with registration number SEY 363 YY, a white FAW Tanker with registration number T 2900 LA and a yellow Volkswagen Transporter Bus with registration number LSD 180 YA.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Command, RC Elizabeth O. Jayeola, said that the FRSC Special Intervention Team in Ibafo Outpost Command received the crash report at 7:05a.m. and arrived at the scene three minutes after

Saying that a total of 15 persons, 13 males and 2 females, were involved in the incident, the spokesperson disclosed that those who suffered fatalities were six males and a male while the injured were two males and two females.

She said that the probable causes of the crash were speed violation and loss of concentration.

“The team immediately evacuated the injured victims to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Centre Hospital, Ibafo, for immediate medical care while corpses of the deceased were deposited at Idera Hospital Morgue, Sagamu.

“The vehicles involved were towed off the road to restore free flow of traffic, while the Nigeria Police (MTD Ibafo) took custody of the vehicles and recovered items,” Route Commander Jayeola stated.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Lagos, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, who expressed sadness at the loss of lives, urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, avoid reckless driving, and maintain proper vehicle condition to avoid road tragedies.
