‎’Nigeria not qualifying for World Cup would prevent unnecessary deaths’

‎AS funny as it sounds, there are actually some people who don’t want the Super Eagles to qualify for the World Cup, which will hold in Canada, USA and Mexico in 2026, with a fan going as far as saying not playing would prevent unnecessary deaths.

‎Most of the responders spoke shortly after Nigeria failed to beat South Africa in the qualifiers on Tuesday.
‎
‎A fan, Tolulope Adekunle, said if Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup, then it will be like rewarding lethargy.
‎
‎”You can see that from the start of the qualifiers, we were never serious. We felt it was our right to reach the World Cup without putting in the efforts.
‎
‎’So if we had beaten South Africa and somehow manage to qualify, then we won’t learn our lessons.”
‎
‎Another fan, Chibuike, said having Nigeria at the World Cup would reduce the joy of watching beautiful football.
‎
‎”There are countries that play beautiful football and if we don’t make it to the competition, I will take my time to choose the country I would support.”

‎One of the funniest reasons given is that Nigeria not participating at the mundial would prevent unnecessary deaths.

‎Kayode, a die-hard Arsenal fan, said he doesn’t want any Nigerian to die watching the country’s matches.

‎”We can remember how many people died during the last AFCON when we played South Africa.
‎
‎”One of such people was Dr Cairo Ojugboh, who slumped after South Africa was awarded a penalty.

‎”So I don’t want people to die unnecessarily because of the Super Eagles.”

‎Following the march in South Africa, two matches remain to be played to decide the top team in Group C. However, the Bafana Bafana still top the table with 17 points, while Nigeria has 14 points.
