Detectives in Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected cultist, Ishola Joseph, for his suspected involvement in the murder of a rival cult member identified as Segun.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 14, at Bode Olude junction in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The police spokeswoman in the command, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest, disclosed that on the said date, at about 9:30pm, the police received a distress call on chaos being caused by a group of suspected cultists at Bode Olude Junction.
“Upon receiving this information, a patrol team quickly arrived at the scene. They found a man named Segun, also known as Ojo Ibo, lying in a pool of blood, with his right wrist slashed by the cult boys.
“There were about six members present after arriving at the junction on three motorcycles.
“They chased the deceased with a gun, creating panic among the public.
“Fortunately, one of the culprits was caught by brave members of the public and identified as Ishola Joseph, male, of 10, Owu Baptist Church Street, Totoro, Abeokuta.”
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect was rescued by the police from being lynched by an irate mob which descended on him, beating him and hitting him with different objects.
SP Odutola stated that the area was combed with the assistance of the Assistant Commissioner of Police Patrol Team and Anti-Cultism Team, and the deceased’s photo was taken, while the body deposited at Ijaiye State Hospital, Abeokuta.
She added that the case is under investigation at the DCB section, promising to provide update on the case as it goes on.
