Following the kidnap incident which occurred in Akunnu Akoko, Ondo State, on Saturday, February 10, the Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, has deployed special squads to areas surrounding the town in order to rescue the victims and arrest their abductors.
The kidnappers, during their operation, killed the driver and abducted the passengers, leaving behind a young female child of one of the victims.
Thenewsbearer learnt that immediately the state police command got information about the kidnap operation, the Area Commander and his team, with the support of the military and local security, moved to the affected area for possible rescue of the victims.
The police image maker, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, in a statement on Sunday, February 11, said that police personnel drawn from various tactical units, led by the Special Anti Kidnapping Squad, had also been briefed and deployed to the area for the rescue of victims and possible arrest of suspects.
“The command is using this opportunity to assure the good people of the state and general motoring public not to panic, as this isolated case does not determine the security status of the state,” the PPRO stated.
