Akure, Ondo State — Police in Ondo State have arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, in connection with the alleged poisoning of her tenant’s three-year-old son at the Omifon community in Odigbo Local Government Area.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, the incident reportedly occurred on the morning of Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., following a disagreement between Lateef and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat.
Police Spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the suspect allegedly gave the child, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance believed to be poisonous.
Shortly after consuming it, the boy became ill and began vomiting. Rofiat rushed her son to a nearby hospital where he received urgent medical attention and was stabilised.
Detectives from the Ondo State Police Command launched a swift, intelligence-led operation that led to Lateef’s arrest.
The police also recovered the liquid substance suspected to be poison during the course of the investigation.
Jimoh said the suspect is currently in police custody and has provided statements as part of ongoing inquiries.
He added that a full investigation is underway and that the case will be charged to court once the inquiry concludes.
In a warning to residents, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, urged people to settle disputes through lawful means and avoid allowing disagreements—especially between landlords and tenants—to escalate into harmful acts.
