The Lagos State Ministry of Education has clarified the temporary shutdown of one of Chrisland Schools, saying that it affects only Chrisland High School, Ikeja, not all the schools operated by the owners.
In a statement on Monday, February 13, 2023, the
Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ganiu Lawal, said that the clarification became necessary to address the anxiety of parents and members of the public on the wrongly-perceived defiance of the school despite the state government order for its closure.
“The Ministry wishes to reiterate that only Chrisland High School Ikeja, where Whitney was a student until the unfortunate incident, remains closed as directed and the school authority has complied.
“The regrettable death of Whitney, as reported, is undergoing investigation by the police and relevant agencies of the Lagos State Government.
“The findings of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is completed.
“However, Chrisland High School, Ikeja, will remain temporarily closed to students and staff to allow for unhindered investigation and afford all stakeholders including parents, students, staff and friends of the deceased, time to grieve,” the statement read.
The ministry had in a statement by the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo ordered the closure of the school on Sunday following the controversy trailing the death of a 12-year-old student of the school, Whitney Adeyemi.
