Osun police deny abducting nurse, say ₦250,000 allegation misleading

The Osun State Police Command has denied allegations of abducting and unlawfully detaining a nurse, Atinuke Shotuminu, describing the claims as misleading and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Force.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 13, in Osogbo.

Ojelabi explained that the controversy arose from a petition filed by one Temitope Olalekan-Adeleke on August 12, 2026, against the nurse over alleged criminal defamation, blackmail, intimidation, emotional abuse and cyberstalking.

According to him, the petitioner alleged that he and the nurse had been in a relationship in August 2024, which lasted about five months before they parted ways.

He claimed that the nurse later posted videos on TikTok referring to him as a “ghost” and alleging that he had HIV, urging anyone who saw him to run away.

The PPRO said following the petition, police operatives travelled from Osogbo to Lagos on August 27, 2026, to investigate the matter.

He stated that the team, after obtaining necessary clearance from the Yaba Divisional Police Headquarters, proceeded to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, where the nurse was handed over to them by the school authorities.

Ojelabi said the school’s Chief Security Officer and Medical Director contacted the Yaba Divisional Police Officer to confirm the legitimacy of the police investigation before the team left the institution with the nurse.

He added that the nurse’s family was contacted before the operatives returned to Osogbo, where statements were obtained from both parties.

According to him, the nurse was subsequently released on bail to two relatives, Famoyinbo Seun and Oyekale Abidemi, after the matter was discussed with the Area Commander.

The PPRO said both parties were given four days to explore an amicable resolution, adding that the nurse later agreed to delete the social media post and apologise.

He stated that the nurse presented a sworn affidavit from a court, pledging not to repeat the alleged act, while both parties resolved their differences through alternative dispute resolution.

Ojelabi maintained that the allegations of abduction, unlawful detention and collection of ₦250,000 did not reflect the true circumstances of the case.

He urged the public to disregard the claims, saying the Command remained committed to professionalism and the protection of its integrity.
