The gruesome killings perpetrated by gunmen at Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State on Sunday, June 5, 2022 have been condemned by Senator Kola Balogun, who described the act as against God and humanity.
The senator, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, expressed sadness at the development, noting that it beats reasoning that human beings could carry out such a heinous act on their fellow humans.
In a press statement by his media aide, Mr Dapo Falade, Senator Balogun condole with the Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the people of Owo and families of the victims.
He also called on the governors of the six south-western states to up the ante in the fight against insecurity across the zone.
Balogun also called or the immediate beef-up of security by the governors, particularly at a time the Lagos State government had banned the operations of okada riders (commercial motorcyclists) in some parts of the state.
He said that in view of the development in Lagos State, the other five governors in the South-West should be more security-conscious and take appropriate measures to stem the possible influx of criminal elements into their various states.
“I heard, with great sadness, the ugly and unfortunate massacre that occured, on Sunday, at the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo, Ondo State.
“The killing of innocent worshippers during a church service, even at any point in time, is a dastardly act against God and humanity. This should be roundly condemned by all.
“The criminal elements in our society are becoming emboldened the more on a daily basis. Our security agencies should all be alive to their responsibilities to safeguard lives and property.
“I am particularly calling on our governors in the South-West zone to beef up security. The Amotekun should be properly equipped to work with the regular security agencies.
“Concerted efforts should be made to bring the perpetrators of this evil act to justice. Doing this will be a honour to the memory of the victims and also to serve as a deterrent to other evil-minded people.
“My condolences to the governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu. I also condole with the people of Owo and the families of the victims. May God rest the souls of the departed,” Senator Kola Balogun stated in the release.
