Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspects for allegedly diverting petroleum products suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit(PMS), popularly known as petrol, from its planned destination.
The arrest was disclosed by the state command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Olusegun, a Chief Superintendent, in a statement on Friday, July 17, 2021.
The PRO said that the suspects, identified as Akeem Adesola (30) and Benjamin Adeniyi (29) were intercepted with the truck, a blue Leyland DAF with registration number Lagos EKY 189 XV, on Iseyin-Saki Road at about 3pm on Wednesday, by the Anti-Vandalism Unit of the command.
Parading the suspects on Friday, the state Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, said that the command had re-strategised by improving on intense patrol of crime-prone areas in the state to combat any act of criminality.
He said that the driver, Adesola, confessed that the destination of the product was meant to be NNPC, Ibadan, as written on the waybill, but that he was taking it to Saki when he was intercepted.
Adaralewa added that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
Warning those indulging in the diversion and illegal dealings in petroleum products to desist, the Commandant said that the command would leave no stone unturned in dealing with the perpetrators who believe in sabotaging the effort of the government.
He added: ”The Command has zero-tolerance for criminalities, hence, all perpetrators are to either relocate out of Oyo State or face the wrath of the law.”
