A 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, died on Sunday, March 9, when the palm tree he was cutting accidentally fell on him at Bogije Village, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, at about 3p.m.
A report of the incident to the police at Ijebu Igbo Division in Ogun State Police Command, by one Gbamila Sunday, indicated that Rasaki had gone with one Waheed Abass to Egbe Semijeje area of Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo, to cut palm trees when one of the trees accidentally fell on him.
The injured man reportedly screamed in pain for help, which made residents in the neighbourhood to rush to his aid by removing the tree which fell on him, after which they quickly took him to General Hospital, Sagamu, for treatment.
However, on their arrival at the hospital, Rasaki was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, said that the corpse had been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
She said that the case is currently under investigation by the Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
