Passengers in a bus travelling along Eruku-Obbo Ile axis in Kwara State narrowly escaped death or being kidnapped when suspected bandits struck and attacked the moving vehicle on Friday, November 7.
The bus, with the inscription “National Congress on Evangelisation Operation Good News, Oyo State chapter,” was riddled with bullets which left marks round it.
Prominent bullet marks were seen close to the left rear tyre and the left side door, indicating that the places were targeted to stop the vehicle and its driver.
One of the occupants was reported to have sustained gunshot injury, with his spattered blood seen in the vehicle.
Thenewsbearer learnt that he was taken to a hospital for prompt medical treatment.
One of the passengers told residents in the community who thronged the scene that the bandits shot at the vehicle from both sides of the road to render it immobile, so as to have easy access to the occupants.
The passenger said that they were on their to Isanlu, after Sagbe Community, in Kogi State when the incident occurred.
The residents, who described the attack as “terrifying,” called on security agencies to intensify patrols along the route which connects several boundaries between Kwara and Kogi State.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said: “Two vehicles travelling to Isanlu in Kogi State were attacked. One was carrying grains, while the other carried passengers going to attend a wedding ceremony in Isanlu.
“A person sustained a gunshot injury to the left leg. He was treated and discharged.”
The Commissioner of Police added that efforts had been intensified to arrest the perpetrators.
