Polaris Bank gives employees’ children firsthand experience of banking, workplace life

Polaris Bank has hosted children of its employees to a memorable day of learning, fun and workplace discovery as part of efforts to strengthen employee engagement and foster meaningful connections between staff and their families.

The initiative, organised under the Bank’s “Bring Your Child to Work” programme, welcomed children aged six and above, giving them an opportunity to see where their parents work, meet their colleagues and gain a better understanding of their professional responsibilities.

The children, selected through an internal trivia draw among staff, participated in a variety of activities designed to promote creativity, teamwork, curiosity, interaction and learning.

A major highlight was a guided tour of the Bank’s premises, during which the children visited the banking hall and various departments.

The tour offered them firsthand exposure to the banking environment and helped them understand how different teams and functions contribute to the operations of a financial institution.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank, Kayode Lawal, welcomed the children and urged them to embrace the opportunity to learn and have fun.

“At Polaris Bank, we believe that work is more than meetings and desks. It is about solving problems, helping people, making life easier, learning, and making a meaningful contribution.

“So, while you are here today, be curious, ask questions, learn, and most importantly, have fun,” Lawal said.

Representing the CEO, the Head of Human Resources, Olanrewaju Oyekunle, said the programme was designed to help the children appreciate their parents’ professional lives while inspiring them to explore the possibilities available to them in the future.

He noted that the children could eventually pursue careers in diverse fields, including banking, entrepreneurship, medicine, engineering, technology and leadership.

Another major attraction was an interactive session led by the Bank’s Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking, Abimbola Ozomah, who introduced the children to the fundamentals of banking in a simple and engaging manner.

The children learnt about how banks operate, the importance of saving, responsible financial habits and the role financial institutions play in helping individuals and businesses manage their finances.

The session also encouraged them to ask questions and share their understanding.

Beyond the learning sessions, the programme provided opportunities for the children to make new friends and interact with one another.

They were encouraged at different stages to share what they had learnt and the people they had connected with during the programme.

For participating parents, the initiative offered an opportunity to give their children a glimpse into their daily professional lives while teaching them the values of responsibility, collaboration, service and commitment.

The programme also reinforced the importance of curiosity and continuous learning, encouraging the children to ask questions, explore new ideas and consider the wide range of career opportunities available to them.

The “Bring Your Child to Work” initiative underscores Polaris Bank’s focus on employee wellbeing and engagement, recognising the connection between employees’ professional and family lives.

By creating opportunities for employees to share their workplace experiences with their families, the Bank continues to promote an inclusive, people-focused workplace culture in which employees and their families feel valued and connected.

For the children, the experience went beyond simply visiting their parents’ workplace. It offered them an opportunity to explore the world of banking, learn about different careers, make new friends and gain a new perspective on their parents as professionals contributing to the growth and success of an organisation.
