In its efforts to sanitise some areas in Lagos State and restore normalcy, the police command went after suspected misceants on Monday, February 8, 2021, leading to the arrest of 58 persons.
The targeted areas included Agarawu, Ita Faaji, Igbosere, among others on Lagos Island, which reportedly had been under the siege of miscreants and gangsters.
According to a statement by the state police spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the command had despatched a team comprising of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Taskforce, Police Mobile Force, Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps and other local security outfits, led by the Area Commander, Area A, Lion Building, ACP Bode Ojajuni.
The PPRO said that the suspected miscreants and gangsters in the areas had severally attacked and damaged people’s property, while some allegedly lost their lives to various criminal activities of the bad eggs.
The male suspects arrested included Sikiru Kareem, Kamal Olatoyinbo, Sulaimon Alaga, Musa Alidu, Amadu Chidi, Abass Saliu, Gafar Ambali, Oriyomi Adeyemi, Suleiman Saleh, Ojo Junior and Abayomi Ogunleye, among others.
The female suspects were identified as Sharon Egiri, Idris Jumoke, Nike Idris, Adewale Adeola and Damilola Omoniyi.
Adejobi stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, “deemed it necessary and imperative to raise a formidable team to carry out sting operations on the island, to restore normalcy to the affected areas.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and prosecution.
“He also warned and assured that the command will not relent on its oars in making sure that the Lagos Island and the state generally are free of gangsterism, hooliganism and crimes.”
