Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Hakeem Odumosu, has vowed to fight sexual offences and domestic-based violence headlong in the state.
He made the vow on Tuesday, June22, 2021, while reacting to a case of alleged defilement of a minor by her biological father and sexual harassment of his wife’s housemaid, at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement, said that police operatives attached to Festac Division of the Command, arrested the suspect, Kingsley Achugbu, aged 35, of Festac Area, on Monday, June 21, for alleged sexual harassment of the housemaid (name withheld) and his two-year-old biological daughter.
The PPRO said that the housemaid had reported the matter to the police at Festac Division, in company with one Mrs Justina Nelson, of Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, which made the police to swing into action immediately.
The two-year-old child was said to have been taken to the hospital for medical examination and expert report for further investigation.
The police commissioner ordered that the matter be transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
He also appealed to the general public to always report all cases of sexual harassment and assault and domestic-based violence to the police or any available relevant government agencies and Non-Government Organisations, for necessary action, in order to get rid of the societal menaces in the state.
Odumosu also reiterated his zero tolerance for such sexual offences like rape, defilement, sexual harassment and assault. domestic-based violence, among others, which, he said, had been the order of the day in the society, while he promised to work hand-in-hand with relevant government agencies and NGOs to fight the societal menace to a halt in the state and Nigeria generally.
