A 30-year-old man, Joseph Ogundeji, who claims to be a prophet, has been arrested by detectives in Ogun State Police Command for defiling two sisters said to be members of his church.
Not only that, the sexual escapades he was having with the underaged girls had resulted in the older sister, aged 16, getting pregnant.
Confirming the story on Tuesday, November 14, 2022, the police spokesman in the command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the suspect was arrested on November 11.
The PPRO disclosed that the father of the two girls had lodged a complaint at Ajuwon divisional headquarters after he discovered that his 16-year-old daughter was pregnant.
To the father’s shock, the daughter reportedly told him that the prophet in their church was responsible for the pregnancy.
SP Oyeyemi stated further that the report made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ajuwon Sivision, SP Andrew Akinseye, to send his detectives after the suspect for his arrest.
After confessing to committing the crime, the PPRO said that it was discovered in the course of investigation that the suspect was also having sexual relationship with the pregnant girl’s younger sister, a 13-year-old.
The two victims were said to have told the police that the suspect, who lived very close to their church usually asked them to rest in his house after vigil service whenever the programme ended at about 3 am.
“They stated further that anytime they stayed in the prophet’s house, he used to give them something to lick, and after licking it, they would sleep off, only to wake up and discover that the prophet had had sex with them,” SP Oyeyemi further explained.
When asked why they didn’t inform their parents, the victims reportedly told the police that the suspect threatened to kill them if they did.
He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect be transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
