Two suspected armed robbers, Samson Tella (37) and Raphael John (21), who specialised in ‘One Chance’ robbery, have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command attached to Ilasan Division for allegedly attacking a car owner and forcefully taking away his car.
The suspects, nabbed on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at about 9:30am, were said to have been terrorising Lekki/Ajah axis of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the command, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, August 5, said that the suspected armed robbers had attacked the owner of a Toyota Corrolla car with registration number JJJ 242 FW, on August 2, at 9.30pm at Ikate area, after which they took over the steering wheel, drove him to an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) point and withdrew N20,000 from his account.
However, according to the PPRO, the victim quickly informed the police who tracked the car to an automobile workshop at Lafiaji, Lagos Island on August 3, and the suspects were arrested with the stolen car.
“The victim has identified Samson Tella as one of the robbers that attacked him,” Adejobi disclosed.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, in furtherance of his spirited efforts to reduce crime, especially ‘One Chance’ robbery to its barest minimum, reiterated his order to tactical commanders to take action towards flushing out the operators in the state.
The Commissioner of Police reassured Lagosians of adequate security of lives and property and sustenance of peace being enjoyed by the residents.
He ordered the suspects to be transferred to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for proper investigation and subsequent prosecution.
