Two suspected members of a robbery syndicate, whose area of specialty was in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint, especially at Sango Ota and its environs, have been nabbed by operatives of Ogun State Police Command.
The suspects, Abiodun Ogundele, 23 years old, and Opeyemi Olatubosun, aged 22, were arrested on Monday, May 10, 2021, when Sango divisional headquarters received a distress call at about 8pm, that one Adesoji David, a motorcyclist, was being attacked at Joju area of Sango Ota by armed hoodlums.
In a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Thursday, May 13, it was said that the Divisional Police Officer at Sango Ota, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the suspects, who had already snatched the victim’s Bajaj motorcycle, took to flight, but were hotly pursued, resulting in the arrest of two among them, while the other one escaped,” the PPRO stated.
Items recovered from them were a locally-made pistol, a live cartridge, an expended cartridge and the snatched motorcycle.
The command’s Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, was said to have ordered an immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
He also directed a manhunt for the fleeing gang member, so that he would be brought to book.
