The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges and other dangerous items in separate intelligence-led operations by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and the Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU).
The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 13, in Asaba.
According to Edafe, operatives of the VCRU, acting on credible intelligence, raided a residence in Obiaruku on September 12, 2026, following information that the occupant was in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He said that the suspect, 36-year-old Joel Iwomi of Umuebu, Obiaruku, resisted the operatives’ attempt to gain entry into the premises.
The PPRO stated that the operatives eventually gained access to the residence and recovered one pump-action gun and 18 live cartridges during a search.
He added that Iwomi was arrested and taken into custody, while investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In a separate operation conducted on September 9, 2026, operatives of the CACU arrested a suspected illegal arms dealer, Chukwuka Nzete, popularly known as “Ododo,” from Isupe Community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
SP Edafe said Nzete was suspected of involvement in the illegal sale and proliferation of firearms and allegedly operated a shrine where criminal elements were fortified.
He disclosed that a search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of one pump-action gun, four dagger knives, one battle axe and pots containing substances suspected to be charms.
The suspect, he said, was also taken into custody as detectives continued investigations to establish the full extent of his activities and possible links with other criminal elements.
The PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Samuel E. Erale, as reaffirming the command’s determination to deny criminals access to illicit firearms and other weapons capable of threatening public safety.
CP Erale, according to Edafe, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on suspicious persons, illegal firearms and criminal activities in their communities.
The CP assured residents that all actionable information would be treated with the necessary confidentiality.
