Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a wanted serial kidnapper, Clement Elijah, and recovered weapons used in past operations.
Also arrested on June 16 was the gang’s armourer, Posi Friday, with a pump-action rifle, one locally-fabricated pistol and eight live cartridges cleverly concealed in a Boom Speaker recovered from him.
Confirming this in a statement on Tuesday, June 17, the Command’s spokeswoman, CSP Omolola Odutola, said that Elijah, a felon, had been on the run since 2024 in connection with a high-profile kidnap incident at Ajelanwa village.
She stated that two of his accomplices were taken into custody at the time.
The suspect, who arrived Ibiade community on June 13, 2025, was said to have planned the abduction of a prominent individual in Ago Village, Abigi. However, his plans were thwarted through timely collaboration between the police and vigilant residents.
In his comment, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the proactive efforts of Ibiade and Abigi communities.
He also expressed deep appreciation for their sustained communication and support which he said were pivotal in cracking the case.
In another development, operatives of the Anti-Cultism team arrested 14 suspected cultists of two rival groups planning attacks over superiority on June 16, 2025.
The suspects were rounded up in Ijagun, Ogbo, Ijele areas Imaweje areas in Ijebu Ode when they assembled to sign out after their institution’s examinations.
CSP Odutola said that investigations were ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), as she sought continued support for the command by the residents.
