The Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) had warned Inspectors, due for promotion to the next rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police and slated for interview, to desist from contributing money for officials of the Commission or police officers who will be conducting the interview at the different zones.

DIG Argungu said that the Commission will deal ruthlessly with any police officer or officials found to be involved in any way, or attempting to induce or compromise those supervising the exercise.

Such officers he warned, will not only be sanctioned, but disgraced.

The DIG gave the warning as the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) will begin the interview holding at the 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters from Monday, May 19, 2025.

A statement by the PSC Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, made it known that the Board interview is a condition for consideration of senior Inspectors for promotion to the next rank.

DIG Argungu confirmed that PSC staff would be deployed to all the zonal command headquarters to conduct the promotion interview, in partnership with officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said he was aware of what was obtainable in the past, where contributions were made by the candidates for interview and handed over to the supervising officials.

He stated further the Commission would put an end to this act and ensure that the Departmental Selection Board is devoid of any financial inducement.

The PSC Chairman noted that promotion and its processes in the Nigeria Police Force would henceforth be based on merit and availability of vacancies.

He enjoined police officers scheduled for the promotion interview to be prepared to face the interview panel and earn their promotion.

The Commission, he said, would continue to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force is capable and ready to secure the nation’s environment and maintain law and order where citizens are free to pursue their daily obligations.
