Police operatives attached to Quick response squad (QRS) in Delta State Police Command have arrested three suspected cultists after a locally made cut-to-size gun and four live cartridges were found with them.
The three suspects were identified as Chukwuma Owoh (26), Ediri Ogendengbe (32), and Alfred Kess (38).
The arrest was made on Friday, August 5, 2022, at about 1:45pm when the operatives were on a stop-and-search duty along Pessu corner in Warri and intercepted a tricycle with three occupants.
Confirming the suspects’ arrest, the Delta Command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, said that when the tricycle occupants were searched, the gun and the live cartridges were recovered from them, leading to their being held.
“One of the suspects, Chukwuma Owoh, confessed that he bought the gun from one Haruna of Hausa Market, Warri, and that he was on his way to Pessu in search of some Aiye Confraternity cult members that attacked his younger sister. The suspects are currently in custody and investigation is ongoing,” the PPRO disclosed.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali who commended the arrest, urged officers and men of the Command to sustain the tempo.
He also admonished them to be polite and civil to members of the public while on duty, as incivility would not be tolerated under his watch.
