‎Police strengthen security at top Lagos schools after threat scare

The Lagos State Police Command has deployed officers to prominent schools in Ikeja following threatening messages that forced temporary closures and raised fears of possible attacks.

‎On Tuesday, January 21, 2026, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of two leading private schools — identified locally as Grange School and Greensprings School (Anthony Campus) — reported receiving alarming WhatsApp messages from an unknown number.

‎The messages suggested a threat to the safety of the school environments, prompting urgent security notifications to the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters.
‎
‎In response, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh immediately mobilised specialised police units to the affected campuses. Teams from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and other tactical units conducted thorough inspections of classrooms, administrative blocks, halls and playgrounds.

‎The exhaustive sweep returned no evidence of improvised explosive devices or dangerous items, and officials subsequently declared the schools safe for academic and administrative activities to continue.

‎To enhance protection, combined police personnel have been permanently stationed at the schools to ensure round-the-clock safety for students, staff and infrastructure. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for sending the threatening messages.

‎The Lagos State Police Command also urged members of the public, especially residents and school communities, to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through official channels. Authorities assured parents and stakeholders of their commitment to securing educational institutions and maintaining public order across the state.
