The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State Command, Dr Ikioye Orutugu, has deployed both human, operational and intelligence assets of the Command for the re-arrest of two suspects involved in the murder of Late Hon. Justice Azuka, who escaped from police custody.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspects escaped from police custody on Tuesday, February 18,
The Commissioner of Police also directed immediate disciplinary action against the Officers who were with the suspects at the time of their escape.
The command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, said Information had it that following the confession of the criminal gang, two of the suspects assisting the Investigating Police Officers went with them in an operation to recover the operational vehicles the gang used in their deadly activities, and also arrest the receiver.
“During the operation, the suspect (receiver) was arrested and two vehicles suspected to have been snatched from the unsuspecting members of the public were recovered. Unfortunately, the other two suspects fled the scene.
“To this end, the CP has assured that the Command is on the offensive against every criminal element in the state, and that efforts are in top gear to ensure that the suspects are re-arrested and justice served.
“The erring officers will also face disciplinary action if found culpable,” the PPRO said in the statement.
It will be recalled that Hon. Azuka was representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the state House of Assembly before he was killed by kidnappers after they collected ransom.
