Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, was brought to a standstill at the weekend, when suspected hoodlums went on rampage, looting and committing arson.
The looters were reportedly after corona virus palliatives, but did not stop at that as they also invaded government buildings and private businesses.
They were said to have gone to the houses belonging to Senators Gershom Bassey and Ndoma Egba, which were vandalised and looted.
Among other buildings that were either razed or destroyed were the Cross River State Property Investment Limited, CROSPIL office, Bishop Moynagh Avenue and State Housing Estate, which was looted on Friday, October 23.
Others were Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, Marian Road, burnt down on Friday, October 23, Commercial Transport Regulatory Agency (CTRA) office, Marian Road, Department of Petroleum Resources and takpa Police Station, Watt Market, which was razed.
Also, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) office, Calabar Discount Mall, Ministry of Works warehouse, Cross River State Roll Back Malaria Centre, West African Examination Council (WAEC) office, Federal Psychiatry Hospital, Calabar, and Access Bank, Mayne Avenue were looted, vandalised or set on fire.
Cross River Garment Factory, Ayade Filling Station, Murtala Mohammed Highway, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) office, National Television Authority (NTA) and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital we’re also affected.
