In a bid to restore sanity and decency to police operations on the ever-busy international route, Badagry highway in Lagos State, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered an immediate dismantling of illegal road blocks by police teams from the state command.
Odumosu gave the order on Friday April 9, 2021, during an address to Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, on the general security situation in the state.
The police commissioner also reviewed the anti-crime strategies of the command, in order to sustain its feats on crime control and comform with the present happenings in Lagos State, according to a statement by the state police spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, April 10.
Adejobi said that the police boss, while reacting to some complaints from the general public, as well as security reports on police activities along the international route, ordered the Area Commanders and DPOs, whose jurisdictions fall along the highway, to withdraw their men from the illegal road blocks and embark on aggressive motorised patrol and surveillance to secure their areas and the route.
The Area commands involved are Area E, Festac and Area K, Marogbo.
Saying that the illegal police road blocks along the route had also been condemned by the state government, international bodies and interest groups, Odumosu stressed the need to pull the roadblocks apart without delay.
He promised to make sure that other police operatives from other police formations who operate along the route, outside the supervision of the state command, would be contacted to adjust and do the needful, to restore sanity to their operations.
Odumosu warned the concerned Area Commanders to desist from illegality and take necessary action on full compliance with his order, as any defaulter would be sanctioned accordingly.
