The Rivers State Police Command got a significant breakthrough on Thursday, October 16, when its operatives arrested a suspected armed robber, Iruo Young M., for his involvement in car snatching along with other gang members.
The success was achieved following a swift investigation into the viral video circulating on the social media space, showing an armed robbery incident at Choba area of Port Harcourt on October 15, 2025.
In the video, a gang of armed robbers could be seen snatching a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.
Confirming the breakthrough, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said that operatives successfully nabbed the suspect, aged 42, in his hideout at Ikoku, Port Harcourt, through intelligence-led policing and technical support.
She stated: “During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and an in-depth investigation has been launched to apprehend the other fleeing suspects, recover the stolen vehicle, and retrieve the firearms used in committing the crime.”
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, who commended the operatives involved in the operation for their diligence and swift response, which led to the suspect’s arrest, also expressed gratitude to the public for their support and cooperation in sharing credible information that facilitated the arrest.
CP Adepoju warned criminals that the state would not provide a hiding place for them, stressing the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.
