An armed robbery suspect who had allegedly been terrorizing residents Obada Oko community and its environs has been arrested by policemen in Ogun State command.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Fatai a.k.a Emir, was arrested on February 10, 2021.
The police image-maker in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Sunday, February 14, that Fatai had dispossessed one Tijani Sodiq of N120,000 and two bags of rice on Araromi Street on February 5.
However, according to the PPRO, he was sighted by the victim, who quickly alerted the police.
“Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Obada Oko Division, CSP Bernard Ediogboyan swiftly mobilized his patrol team and moved to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended.
“In the process of robbing his victim, the suspect inflicted an injury on the right wrist of the victim.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is a leading member of Eiye Confraternity, led some hoodlums who vandalized Obada Oko divisional headquarters on October 21, 2020 during the EndSARS protest,” Oyeyemi stated.
He added that Fatai had confessed to many cult-related clashes at Obada Oko and its environs.
The PPRO stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
Ajogun also directed that the remaining members of the gang should be apprehended, in order to put an end to their activities in the area.
