Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected Awawa cult members at Oko-koto, Agege, hours after foiling a traffic robbery around Otedola Bridge on Lagos – Ibadan highway.
The state Police Public Relations Officer disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, December 20, 2020.
The arrests were made on Friday, December 18, 2020.
The PPRO said that the suspects were arrested at their hideout.
He gave their names as Rasak Babatunde (22), an auto technician, and Idowu Wasiu (16), a tailor,
According to Adejobi, “in compliance with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, the raid on suspected hideouts and black spots across the state, particularly at Agege and its environs, was part of the proactive strategies to minimize crime in Lagos State.
“Some of the places raided by the police included Isokoko, Oke-Koto, Abattoir, Dopemu, Elere, Oniwaya and Pen Cinema, all at Agege.”
Also, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad foiled traffic robbery, the PPRO revealed.
He said the RRS team ran into the suspected armed robbers at about 11:00 p.m., on Otedola Bridge, towards Ojota area.
On sighting the police, Thenewsbearer learnt that the robbers abandoned their motorcycle, with registration number NND 268 WZ, a toy gun and other weapons.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered for immediate investigation of the suspects’ activities, while reiterating his commitment to ridding the state of criminals and hoodlums.
“CP Odumosu also admonished members of the public to be sensitive to their environment and be alive to their civic responsibility, towards maintenance of law and order and safety of residents of the state,” Adejobi said.
