The Nigeria Police Force recorded another outstanding achievements in tackling gun running and reducing the proliferation of prohibited firearms and ammunition across the country, as it has made a total arrest of 715 armed robbery suspects, 306 kidnappers, 533 murder/homicide suspects, 149 suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms, 371 suspects for sexual-related offences, 590 suspected cultists, and 3,272 suspects arrested for other various crimes.
The achievements were made in continuity of the NPF’s intensified efforts to bolster national security and combat organised crime, Thenewsbearer gathered.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday, September 3, at the FID-IRT Base, Gusape, in the Federal Capital Territory, the FPRO highlighted some of these notable achievements, detailing the coordinated operations carried out, particularly by detectives of the IRT, which led to the rescue of victims, arrest of suspects and recovery of several dangerous firearms.
Among the suspects was Jane Anodua who was arrested by the operatives of the FID-IRT following a case reported by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Plateau State, about incessant abduction and sales of children in the state.
According to the FPRO, the suspect, when interrogated, gave relevant information, leading to the successful rescue of two female children, both 10 years old.
The suspect further gave a useful confession about the whereabouts of two more children she assisted in trafficking from Plateau State to Imo State, DCP Adejobi disclosed, saying that the victims had been rescued and reunited with their parents.
The FPRO also spoke on the arrest of one Tanfa Binbol on July 13, 2025, at about 11a.m., when operatives of the FID-IRT, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspect.
Following his arrest, the suspect, according DCP Adejobi,confessed to being a gunrunner operating between Taraba and Plateau states.
“Further search of the suspect’s premises led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, five pistols, and one pump-action rifle,” the FPRO said.
In a related development, one Jerauji Ibrahim of Kedeme Demsa LGA, Adamawa State, was apprehended by IRT operatives on July 27, 2025, at about 11a.m., while acting on credible intelligence. The suspect reportedly confessed to having two AK-47 rifles in his possession .
Adejobi stated: “The operatives picked up on this intelligence and recovered the arms, along with two magazines and 19 rounds of live ammunition of different calibres.”
He added,: “Furthermore, following up on several other active cases of gun running, banditry and illegal possession of firearms, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team were also able to recover four AK-47 rifles, one G-3 rifle, ine SMG rifle, one locally-fabricated pistol, one revolver AK-47 rifle, and one revolver from various hideouts of suspected criminals.”
He affirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to its core mandate of safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens, encouraging Nigerians to go about their daily activities in peace, without fear of the unknown.
