The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has recorded significant gains in its fight against crime, arresting 160 suspects and rescuing dozens of victims, despite the loss of six officers in the line of duty within three months.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller Dantawaye, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing in Abuja while presenting the command’s operational scorecard for the last quarter of 2025.
Dantawaye said nine armed criminals were neutralised during high-risk anti-kidnapping and armed robbery operations after engaging police operatives in gun battles while attempting to escape or abduct victims.
He noted that the period under review was marked by painful losses, as six police officers paid the supreme price while carrying out their lawful duties to protect lives and property in the territory.
“Despite these sacrifices, the command recorded notable operational successes,” Dantawaye said, adding that 160 suspects were arrested from over 300 reported cases across various crime categories.
According to him, seven kidnapping cases led to the arrest of 41 suspects, while 62 armed robbery cases resulted in 38 arrests. He added that 26 “one-chance” robbery incidents were recorded, with 12 suspects apprehended.
The commissioner further disclosed that 35 cases of car theft and vehicle snatching led to 11 arrests and the recovery of 20 stolen vehicles.
Dantawaye said 24 kidnapped victims, including women and children, were rescued from criminal hideouts and forest locations, while eight victims of “one-chance” robbery and other violent crimes were also rescued.
He added that 96 suspects were charged to court within the period, with 60 convictions already secured, while other cases are still undergoing prosecution.
The commissioner also revealed that the command recovered several arms and exhibits, including 21 AK-47 rifles, 10 shotguns, one K2 rifle, locally fabricated firearms, ammunition, vehicles, illicit drugs and N15.45 million in cash.
While commending the Inspector-General of Police, the Minister of the FCT, sister security agencies and residents, Dantawaye reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, community engagement and sustained security operations across the territory.
