A 37-year-old woman and mother of two, Joy Sunday, has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly pouring hot water on the face of another woman, Justina Ameh, who accused her of sleeping with her husband.
Ms Sunday was arrested after the elder sister of the victim, one Kelechi Samuel, reported the matter at Agbado divisional headquarters.
The police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Sunday, August 8, 2021, that the victim’s sister told the police that she was in the church for a vigil with her younger sister when the suspect came in with hot water in a container and poured it on her (sister) face, causing burns on her face, head and chest.
She stated further that while she was trying to hold the suspect, she was also stabbed on her left hand by her.
The report, according to the PPRO, made the Divisional Police Officer of Agbado division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, to send his men to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
Oyeyemi said: “On interrogation, the suspect, Joy Sunday, explained that the victim had been accusing her of sleeping with her husband for quite some time, and all efforts to disabuse her mind proved abortive.
“On that fateful day, while they were in the church, she said that the victim came as usual and started raining curses on her. While she tried to walk away from her, the victim pulled her back and tore her cloth.
“She said that it was the annoyance that made her to go home and boil water which she brought back to the church and poured on the victim’s face.”
On the question whether she was dating the victim’s husband, the suspect said she could swear with anything that there had been no relationship between her and the victim’s husband.
The PPRO stated that the victim had been taken to a hospital for medical treatment, while the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had directed that the case be properly investigated, with the view of charging it to court as soon as possible.
