A suspect, Awolesi Precious, who ushered in the new year with the stealing of a generator, had his joy abruptly truncated when he was arrested by operatives in Ogun State Police Command after he was caught with the loot.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect was arrested on January 1, 2025, at about 3am, during a midnight patrol.
The command’s image maker, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest, said that the suspect was caught while transporting a large Firman generator valued at ₦1.2 million along the street.
“When questioned about the generator, he claimed he had rented it from a sound engineer for ₦12,500 to use at an event planned for later in the day.
“In an attempt to mislead the police, Precious provided false information regarding his situation but eventually admitted to stealing the generator from Chilbay Entertainment Lounge, where a burglary had taken place previously,” the PPRO disclosed.
Among the various items stolen were four 32-inch televisions and one 50-inch television, assorted wines and liquors valued at about ₦6 million, several packs of malt drinks, beverages, energy drinks, and a microwave oven.
With the severity of the burglary, CSP Odutola said that a search warrant was promptly executed at the suspect’s residence, where all the aforementioned items were discovered, except the television sets.
She added that the Divisional Crime Branch of Funaab Harmony Division Police Headquarters is continuing its investigation, while the suspect would be charged in court as soon as the investigation has been concluded.
