•Arms, stolen mobile phones recovered
Three suspected armed robbers who allegedly snatched a Lexus car at gun point in Ikorodu area have been arrested by policemen of Lagos State Command’s Special Squad, two weeks after their operation.
The suspects who carried out the operation on Sunday, July 11, 2021, were picked up on July 23 and 27.
The police spokesman in the command, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed on Thursday, July 29 that the suspected armed robbers, who went for the said operation with their Toyota Camry operational car, had an encounter with the men of Police Mobile Force Squadron 63, Ikorodu, Lagos, after the robbery operation, and were forced to abandon the two cars in order to escape.
It was learnt that the case was transferred to the Special Squad, ikeja, for further investigation and arrest of the armed robbers, leading to the operatives’ search for the hoodlums.
The Special Squad succeeded in arresting one of the suspects, Omoyemi Jimoh (30), in Ikorodu on July 23, while the two other members of the gang, Ademola Michael (31) and Olawale Adewale (29), were arrested on July 27, at different locations, also in Ikorodu.
Items recovered from the included a locally-made pistol, an expended cartridge, assorted charms, other dangerous weapons, a Toyota Camry car with registration number KRD 417 GL and the snatched Lexus Car (registration number withheld).
Also, on Thursday, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), during routine patrol and anti-traffic robbery surveillance along the ever-busy Obafemi Awolowo way, Ikeja, arrested two members of a syndicate which specialised in mobile phone theft.
The two suspects – Abiodun Idowu, aged 40, an indigene of Sagamu-Remo in Ogun State and resident at 3, Segilola Street, Agege, and Adeleke Adekunle, aged 27, an indigene of Ila-Orangun in Osun State, residing at 7, Araromi Street, Kola Alagbado – were arrested after disposessing one Olakunle John, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, of his phone.
During interrogation, the suspects were said to have confessed to having been in serial phone theft for a while.
According to the PPRO, “further credible intelligence is being channelled towards the arrest of their fleeing accomplices. One galaxy A20 model phone and two SIM cards belonging to the victim were recovered from them.”
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who commended the Commander RRS, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi and his operatives for the feat recorded, ordered that the suspects be moved to the Special Squad, Ikeja for discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police also commended the men of the Special Squad, Ikeja, for the arrest of the suspected armed robbers in Ikorodu and recovery of their weapons.
Odumosu assured the people of the state of adequate security of lives and property and more secured public space.
