In its fight against crime, the Kano State Police Command on Friday, May 9, recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, 23-year-old Musa Tukur, and the rescue of a 75-year-old victim, Abdulrahman Yunusa, a native of Maigana, Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed this on Monday, May 12, said that the feat was achieved through acting on intelligece, which made the Commissioner of Police, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to direct a raid of the suspected kidnappers’ hideout at Bagau Town, Bebeji Local Government Area, Kano State, by tactical teams.
Thenewsbearer learnt that during the raid, led by the Officer in charge of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Tukur, of Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was apprehended while guarding the kidnapped victim in the hideout.
The PPRO said that the victim was found blindfolded, with his hands and legs tied tied with rope.
Upon his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed to conspiring with his accomplices to kidnap the victim from his residence on Saturday, May 3, at about 12:30p.m., after which a ransom of N20 million was demanded from his family to secure his release.
Kiyawa said that immediately after the victim’s rescue, he was rushed to the hospital, treated, discharged, and reunited with his family.
Thenewsbearer further gathered that on hearing about the rescue, community members from Soba LGA, Kaduna State, trooped to Kano police headquarters, Bompai, in jubilation.
They were said to have poured encomium on the Commissioner of Police and the Command for the success recorded.
Elated at the achievement recorded, CP Bakori commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and appreciated the support of the public in assisting the police with credible information in combating crime and criminality in the state.
He assured the public that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
