Maiduguri — Residents of parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, were thrown into panic in the early hours of Monday, March 16, 2026, after suspected terrorists attacked some communities, firing gunshots and causing explosions that forced security operatives to respond swiftly.
The attack reportedly occurred around Dala, Bulamari, and Ajilari Cross at about 12:35 a.m., when the assailants began shooting sporadically, sending residents fleeing for safety.
Witnesses also reported hearing loud explosions during the incident.
Security operatives, including the police and military, were quickly deployed to the affected areas to contain the situation.
The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the development, saying officers had moved to the scene.
“Yes, there is a suspected terrorist attack at Ajilari Cross. I am currently on my way to the scene. I will give you details later,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, details about casualties or the extent of damage were yet to be confirmed by authorities.
The latest incident comes amid renewed attacks in Borno State and other parts of the North-East, where insurgent groups have continued to target communities and security formations despite ongoing military operations in the region.
Security agencies have not yet announced whether any arrests have been made in connection with the attack, while residents remain on alert as patrols continue in the affected neighbourhoods.
