•As CP Deploys RRS, other teams to thwart robbery threats in Ikorodu
Three suspects, alleged to have been responsible for robberies at some areas in Ikeja and environs, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.
The names of the suspects were given as Damola Ajewole (17), Omotosho Seyi (19), and Olanrewaju Sunday (23).
The arrest, which was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during one of the command’s undercover operations around Ikeja Area, occurred on Tuesday December 22, 2020, at about 11:30p.m.
The areas included Isheri, Ojodu, Berger, Motorways, Agidingbi, Ketu, Alapere and Ogudu.
According to the state police spokesman, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, “the suspects, on sighting the RRS operatives, took to their heels, but were given a hot chase by the police and eventually arrested.“
The PPRO said that during preliminary interrogation, the suspects had confessed to terrorising residents of the area, and admitted being responsible for some traffic robberies and other crimes.
Recovered from the suspects were an operational motorcycle and weapons, Adejobi stated.
He said further that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed that the suspected armed robbers be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation.
Also, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the RRS and other operational units, including Mobile Police Force, State Intelligence Bureau, CP Monitoring Unit, to relocate to Ikorodu.
This was sequel to the speculations on threats of robbery attacks on the residents of Ikorodu.
Odumosu said that the deployment was made, in order to be proactive and fortify security in Ikorodu and its environs, the PPRO added.
The operation also involves the Area Commander, Area N, Ijede and all the Divisional Police Officers and their operatives in Ikorodu.
It will be recalled that recently, there were speculations that robbers were planning to lay siege and attack the residents of Ikorodu and its environs.
The police commissioner also appealed to the general public to abide by the laws of the land and observe COVID-19 preventive protocols during and beyond the Yuletide.
