February 26, 2026: The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has expressed deep sorrow after six final-year nursing students lost their lives in a road accident on the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road in Kwara State.
In a statement issued on February 24 and signed by the university Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, the institution described the incident as “tragic” and a “monumental loss” to the school community.
The students were travelling in a commercial bus from Suleja, Niger State, to LAUTECH for their final examinations on Sunday, February 22, when the crash occurred at Otte in Kwara State.
The deceased were identified as Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth and Aroke Ozavize Victoria, all enrolled in the institution’s Open and Distance Learning Bachelor of Nursing Science programme.
“With a heavy heart, the management … announces the tragic loss of six of our cherished Open and Distance Learning Nursing students … this devastating incident has left our entire academic community in mourning,” the statement read.
LAUTECH extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of the victims, urging members of the public to pray for the repose of their souls.
The tragic crash has cast a pall over the university community, where classmates and staff are still grappling with the loss of the students who were on the brink of completing their studies.
