In a deeply saddening development, the Kano State House of Assembly was thrown into mourning on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, after two of its members died within about an hour to each other.
The first to pass away was Honourable Aminu Sa’adu Ungogo, who represented the Ungogo Constituency.
The news of his sudden death spread quickly through the assembly complex, leaving colleagues and staff shocked.
Barely an hour later, another grim announcement followed that Honourable Sarki Aliyu Daneji, the lawmaker for Kano Municipal Constituency, also died, compounding the deep sense of loss within the legislative chamber.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the deaths on social media, offering prayers and expressing condolences. “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihirrajiun,” he wrote in announcing Daneji’s passing shortly after the first.
At the time of reporting, the causes of both deaths had not been officially disclosed, and details surrounding how the lawmakers fell ill were still unclear.
The unforeseen losses have sent shockwaves through Kano’s political community and beyond, with tributes pouring in for the late legislators who served their constituencies until their final moments.
