March 9, 2026: A yet-to-be-identified woman has lost her life in a tragic road accident along the Oworonsoki–Apapa Expressway in Lagos after falling from a commercial bus and being run over by a truck.
The incident occurred at New Castle Bus Stop inward Gbagada over the weekend, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
The agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the crash involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LSD 654 XY.
Taofiq explained that the bus reportedly veered off the road and rammed into a roadside culvert, causing a female passenger to be thrown out onto the expressway due to the impact.
He added that an oncoming articulated trailer approaching the scene could not stop in time and ran over the passenger, leading to her immediate death.
Six other passengers sustained severe injuries in the crash and were rescued by emergency responders, while officials worked to restore normal traffic flow along the busy highway.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further accidents on Lagos roads.
