U.S. President Donald Trump publicly acknowledged Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi “Remi” Tinubu, during the annual National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, February 5, 2926.
Speaking to an audience of lawmakers, faith leaders and international guests, Trump highlighted Mrs. Tinubu’s presence and described her as a “very respected woman.” He noted her role as a Christian pastor in one of Nigeria’s largest churches, saying it was an honour to have her at the event.
“I’m honoured to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also serves as a Christian pastor… a very respected woman,” the U.S. president said, drawing applause from attendees.
Mrs. Tinubu, an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), was seated among global religious figures and diplomats invited to the prayer gathering.
Her recognition comes amid ongoing discussions between the United States and Nigeria about religious freedom and security issues. In recent months, Washington’s criticism of Nigeria’s handling of attacks on Christians has been a point of diplomatic tension.
