A UK court has sentenced a Nigerian national to life imprisonment for the murder of a young university student in Nottingham, England.
Adedapo Adegbola, 40, was convicted at Nottingham Crown Court for the stabbing death of 23-year-old Steph Irons, a student who had briefly been in a relationship with him.
The tragic incident occurred on October 21, 2025, at Irons’ home in Mapperley, Nottinghamshire. Prosecutors told the court that the relationship had ended shortly before the attack, and Adegbola became obsessed with his former girlfriend.
According to court records, Adegbola purchased knives online and took a taxi to Irons’ residence. He stabbed her after forcing his way inside, in what the prosecution described as a premeditated attack. Irons was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the killing, Adegbola fled the area but was later tracked down and arrested. He pleaded guilty to the murder and was ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years in prison before any possibility of release.
In court, Irons’ family described her as a “kind” and “compassionate” young woman with plans to pursue advanced studies in clinical psychology. A judge said the sentence reflected the severity and cruelty of the crime.
