Veteran gospel music icon, Toun Soetan, has died at the age of 73.
Her death was confirmed on Friday by gospel comedian Woli Agba, who announced the development in a social media post, describing the late singer as a devoted minister whose life reflected her Christian faith.
According to him, “The message remained the same. The lifestyle remained that which glorifies Jesus… Our dear legendary mummy Toun Soetan… sing with the angels.”
Fellow gospel musician Peter Olaniyi also confirmed the news, paying tribute to Soetan and describing her as a legend in the Nigerian gospel music community.
Soetan was widely known for her long-standing contribution to gospel music in Nigeria, with a career that spanned several decades.
She began as a teacher before dedicating herself fully to music ministry, later becoming an evangelist, counsellor and mentor to younger gospel singers.
Over the years, she released several popular gospel songs and led a ministry that trained upcoming musicians, earning her recognition as one of the enduring voices of Nigerian gospel music.
Her death has sparked tributes from colleagues, fans and members of the Christian community, many of whom remember her for her strong faith, discipline and influence on gospel music in the country.
