Pressure mounted on kidnappers by Osun State Police Command has yielded fruits, as a kidnap victim was rescued on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at about 10pm, without any ransom paid.
In a statement on Monday, March 29, the state police image-maker, SP Yemisi Opalola, said the rescue of the victim, abducted on Friday, March 26, was achieved through the unrelenting efforts of the state Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, and the collaboration of other security outfits with the police to rid the state of criminal activities.
The victim had been kidnapped on Ife-Osu-Ibodi Road, along Ife-Ilesa Highway.
Opalola said that pressure had been mounted on the kidnappers since the day of the incident, which paid off, adding that the rescued victim was receiving treatment in the hospital.
Debunking the news that went round on the abduction of three victims, Opalola said: “The Commissioner of Police wishes to set the record straight that it was only one person that was kidnapped, contrary to the rumours making the rounds that three persons were kidnapped.
“The Commissioner of Police enjoins journalists and other social media users to investigate before publishing, to avoid misleading stories being sold to members of the public.”
She said that Olokode had assured the state residents of the command’s readiness to tackle all forms of criminal activities to a standstill.
